Draft rules released in June proposed setting up a panel to hear user appeals, and said major social media messaging platforms would allow the identification of the first originator of information if ordered by courts.
Of the banned accounts, 1.42 million were “dynamically banned” before users filed reports.
The social media platform said several accounts were banned based on reports received through the company’s reporting channel and the tools and resources used to detect such crimes. In July, WhatsApp received a total of 574 complaints.
The messaging platform, which has been criticized in the past for spreading fake news and hate speech in the country and in other parts of the world, removed 2.21 million accounts in India in June.
Facebook and Instagram have no plans to monetize content in Pakistan.
