Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar has directed the authorities to speed up the process of privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and other loss-making government enterprises.
The directive was issued during a high-level meeting in Islamabad, where the financial status of PIA and progress in the privatization process were discussed. It was emphasized that transparency should be a key factor in this privatization effort, with the aim of protecting the national exchequer from further losses.
Azam Kakar asserted that it was no longer possible to cover the deficit of these institutions using public taxes. To solve this problem, he called for reforms in the aviation sector, which would ultimately increase travel facilities for the masses.
He stressed the need to speed up the privatization process and expressed concern over the delay in decision-making on PIA issues.
Additionally, the meeting considered transferring PIA’s financial affairs to the Privatization Commission, with the aim of reducing the airline’s losses and improving its financial condition. This effort will include making the company’s accounts transparent by December 31.
In summary, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar is pushing for transparent and speedy privatization of PIA and other loss-making government entities to protect national exchequer and improve aviation sector services to the public.
