Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar with China President

Pakistan Gets a Second Chance to Develop CPEC?

Posted on October 20, 2023October 20, 2023 By Pakistan Analysis

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar recently visited China, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the deep friendship and strategic partnership between Pakistan and China.

Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation

Prime Minister Kakar’s visit took place on the sidelines of the Third Belt and Road Forum of International Cooperation where he met Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. During their meetings, the two countries reiterated their commitment to deepen their strategic partnership and expand cooperation in various fields.

A time-tested friendship

Pakistan and China have a long-standing friendship and this enduring relationship remains unwavering despite global changes. The leaders of the two countries reiterated their common commitment to the development and prosperity of their countries, regional peace and development.

China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative, has played an important role in upgrading Pakistan’s infrastructure, addressing energy shortages and enhancing regional connectivity. Chinese investment in CPEC has not only spurred economic growth but also improved the lives and livelihoods of Pakistani citizens.

Strengthening economic cooperation

While CPEC has been instrumental in the development of physical infrastructure, the two countries are now focusing on expanding economic cooperation in various sectors. Agreements have been signed to widen the scope of CPEC, including industry, mining, agriculture, livelihood projects, science and technology, education and more.

Infrastructure investment

China has agreed to finance and upgrade the rail track from Peshawar to Karachi at low cost and to invest in Pakistan’s refinery business. The purpose of these investments is to expand Pakistan’s industrial and economic infrastructure.

Overcoming past challenges

Previous challenges, including political rhetoric and bureaucratic hurdles, have slowed cooperation in areas beyond energy and transport. Both countries are now working to remove these barriers and unlock the full potential of their partnership.

China’s commitment to global cooperation

China’s commitment to expand its global cooperation through the Belt and Road Initiative demonstrates its leadership in economic multilateralism and globalization. This renewal gives Pakistan a second chance to take advantage of expanded economic ties and further develop its economy.

A bright future

The future holds promise for Pakistan and China as they work to promote a green, open and inclusive economy through their strategic partnership and the Belt and Road Initiative.

Finally, Pakistan and China are seizing the opportunity to enhance their friendship and expand the scope of their cooperation beyond CPEC infrastructure projects, focusing on different sectors to promote economic growth and development.
