Lahore: The provincial capital of Punjab has been declared the most polluted city in the world, after which Sahiwal is in the second position, Faisalabad, Manchester of Pakistan is in the third position in the world.
Lahore’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 419 Sahiwal 384 while Faisalabad remained at 365 as smog and pollution engulfed these cities.
Air quality index data was released on Monday in which Lahore was included in the list of the most polluted cities in the world while Karachi is ranked fourth.
On the other hand, the concentration of PM2.5 in Lahore air is currently 75.6 times higher than the WHO’s annual air quality guideline value.
Lahore suffers from high levels of air pollution, and the city regularly ranks at the top of the world’s major live pollution rankings. However, pollution only reached the peak of public awareness in early 2017.
Health experts have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and schedule their trips according to the weather conditions. Health experts also advised citizens to wash their hands and face regularly and wear masks.
The Meteorological Department also said that rain and strong winds are not expected in the plains of the country.
