PTI announced candidates for all 266 National Assembly seats of Pakistan for the February 8 elections.

Imran Khan, who was prevented from contesting the election due to his conviction, is facing the rejection of his nomination papers. It should be noted that PTI has fielded candidates against former ally Sheikh Rashid Ahmed.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was dealt a major blow on Saturday when the Supreme Court quashed the Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) order on January 10, days before the former ruling party. For the general elections, he was deprived of his ‘famous’ election symbol – the bat.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faiz Isa, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Musrat Hilali delivered the verdict after a day’s hearing.

The election governing body had attacked the PHC’s decision, terming the commission’s order as “illegal, without legal authority and of no legal effect”.

The controversy began with the Election Commission’s decision on 22 December 2023, barring the PTI party from holding its election symbol for the upcoming elections on 8 February, citing irregularities in its internal elections.
