The Department of Chemistry was first established in September 2005 under the University of Education Lahore, Okara Campus. It was the first science department to be started in the university. As of April 2016, the Department of Chemistry has been transferred to The University of Okara. Since its inception, the department has played an important role in teaching and research.

Over the years, the Department of Chemistry has gained a good reputation and has had the honor of producing many distinguished graduates. Graduates of this department occupy prominent positions in education, research and development organizations, and industries as well as in administration. Apart from teaching, research is also becoming an important part of the academic activities of this department. This is due to the presence of highly dedicated faculty and staff, the development of laboratories, and the availability of state-of-the-art research facilities and grants from university and government funding agencies.

In order to take effective advantage of the experience, skills, and technical knowledge of the teaching staff and to train the students, some areas of specialization have been developed, namely Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Bio. Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, and Applied Chemistry. Currently, more than 500 students are studying in this department in different sessions and more than 100 students are graduating from this department every year.

The department has successfully completed seven sessions of BS Chemistry. The total alumni of the Department of Chemistry are more than 1000 graduates. Graduates are serving in various public and private sectors. The Department of Chemistry currently offers two undergraduate BS programs, one in Chemistry and the other in Applied Chemistry. Graduate Program The Department of Chemistry is also starting an MS/MPhil Chemistry program to enhance the level of teaching and research in the department.

The Department of Mathematics was established in 2006 at Education University Lahore Campus from the beginning of Okara.
